Born Michael Joseph Jackson in 1958 in Gary, Indiana he was also known as the undisputed "King of Pop" throughout his short lifetime. Belonging to a musical family, Michael Jackson began performing from a very early age with his brothers. After the group was introduced to Berry Gordy by Gladys Knight, they rapidly produced several chart topping hits with the focus Michael’s astonishing vocal powers.

As a solo artist, Michael Jackson was a phenomenon with his album ‘Thriller’ becoming the biggest-selling album of all time. His incredible passion and complete devotion to the music came across in his musical performances and his music videos.

Although he faced some challenges, the most notable being the accusation against him of child molestation, no evidence was found to support the allegation and it was settled out of court. In his later years he faced mounting debts and bankruptcy. However he organized a series of fifty concerts which he termed his final curtain call.

Those concerts never took place because on June 25 2009, Michael Jackson died of a drug induced cardiac arrest. Despite the controversy that surrounded the pop star and the media circus that was made of his life, millions of people around the world mourned his death and monuments were erected to celebrate his life. He was an icon and a role model and a source of inspiration for many present-day artistes!.
