John Clayton Mayer was born in Connecticut in 1977. He studied music in Boston before moving to Atlanta in 1997 to begin his career as a songwriter, musician and singer. He has released four albums (not including recordings of live performances), called Room for Squares, Heavier Things, Continuum and Battle Studies. These have all gone platinum and he has won Grammys for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album. John Mayer has been linked with many famous celebrity women, including Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Minka Kelly and Taylor Swift. His often brief relationships with high profile singers and actresses have resulted in him gaining a reputation as something of a womanizer.
John Mayer has had a persistently controversial relationship with the media, with many people branding his style when interviewed by magazines as highly arrogant and egotistical. This was brought to the fore when in aninterview with Playboy magazine his revelations about some of his relationships with famous women and some comments that were construed as racist caused a strong reaction from the public, especially via social media site Twitter.
He made a frank apology for the perceived racist comments both in the press and to his fans and band members on stage at a gig in Nashville. Regardless of media controversy, John Mayer is incredibly popular and loved by his fans.
John Mayer Quotes – on Life:
“Never, ever underestimate the power of ‘I’d like that.” – John Mayer
“Life is like a box of crayons. Most people are the 8-color boxes, but what you’re really looking for are the 64-color boxes with the sharpeners on the back. I fancy myself to be a 64-color box, though I’ve got a few missing. It’s ok though, because I’ve got some more vibrant colors like periwinkle at my disposal. I have a bit of a problem though in that I can only meet the 8-color boxes. Does anyone else have that problem? I mean there are so many different colors of life, of feeling, of articulation.. so when I meet someone who’s an 8-color type.. I’m like, “”hey girl, magenta!”” and she’s like, “”oh, you mean purple!”” and she goes off on her purple thing, and I’m like, “no – I want magenta!” – John Mayer
John Mayer Quotes – on his Career and Controversy:
“My two biggest hits are ‘Your Body Is a Wonderland’ and ‘Daughters.’ If you think those songs are pandering, then you’ll think I’m a douche bag. It’s like I come on very strong. I am a very…I’m just very. V-E-R-Y. And if you can’t handle very, then I’m a douche bag. But I think the world needs a little very. That’s why black people love me.” – John Mayer
“Re: using the ‘N word’ in an interview: I am sorry that I used the word. And it’s such a shame that I did because the point I was trying to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself… It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualize using it, because I realize that there’s no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged.” – John Mayer
“If I wasn’t thought of as a young Bruce Springsteen before, I sure am now” – John Mayer
““I’m not being trite. I’m not being a parody of myself, and in finding a new kind of color to adopt for myself, it’s not this or that: it’s singer-songwriter, but it’s also blues guitar player, it’s also comedian.” – John Mayer
John Mayer Quotes – on Sex:
“All of a sudden I thought, I can outgay this guy right now. I grabbed him and gave him the dirtiest, tongue-iest kiss I have ever put on anybody—almost as if I hated fags. I don’t think my mouth was even touching when I was tongue kissing him, that’s how disgusting this kiss was. I’m a little ashamed. I think it lasted about half a minute. I really think it went on too long” – John Mayer
“It was like napalm, sexual napalm.” – John Mayer discussing his relationship with Jessica Simpson
“Before I make coffee, I’ve seen more butt holes than a proctologist does in a week…” – John Mayer
“When I watch porn, if it’s not hot enough, I’ll make up backstories in my mind. My biggest dream is to write pornography.” – John Mayer
