Al Gore served as Vice President under President Bill Clinton for both of his two terms between 1993 and 2001. He was the 45th Vice President of the USA. He went on to run in the 2000 presidential election as the candidate for the Democrat Party. In what was probably the most controversial election in modern western democratic history, Al Gore was defeated by George W. Bush when the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Bush when resolving the legal controversy around the vote count from Florida. Al Gore did not allow this defeat to see the end of his career, and went on to become an author, environmental activist and personality, and has subsequently had a great deal of success.

His environmental work and his efforts to publicize environmental issues with his book and accompanying film documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" have seen him win a Best Spoken Word Book Grammy, A Best Documentary Oscar, and most notably of all, the Nobel Peace Prize, all in 2007.
